Impartial equity release advice from experts.

Our customers are our number one focus.

At Responsible Equity Release, our customers are the sole focus of everything we do. That's why we offer free, no-obligation initial appointments so you can find out if equity release is something you want to consider, with no pressure to proceed.

The decision to release equity is a personal one, so why shouldn't the choice of how you receive advice be too? That's why you can choose to receive advice over the phone, by video call, or face-to-face. Our team of expert equity release advisers are nationwide, so where possible we will strive to offer an adviser who is local to you, understanding the area you live in. No matter how you choose to receive your advice, our advisers will offer honest and impartial advice, tailored to meet your individual needs and circumstances.

Once you have booked your first appointment, your adviser will be there to help you at every step of the journey.

Getting the right advice.

When receiving equity release advice through us, your adviser will ensure to run through all of your options and help you decide which could be right for you. It's important that you balance your current wants and future needs when releasing equity, only borrowing what you need. Naturally, by taking some of the equity out of your home now there will be less available to your estate in the future. Additionally, if you are in receipt of any means-tested benefits, a tax-free cash injection might affect your entitlement to them. There are plans available that can help you to mitigate this risk.

For your peace of mind, all equity release recommendations made by our advisers will be checked by a fully qualified expert.

The extra layer of protection that this provides helps to ensure that you get the best advice possible, every time.

The Equity Release Council.

Responsible Equity Release is a member of the Equity Release Council (ERC), the customer-centric trade body for our industry. They ensure that you will benefit from a variety of safeguards.

In addition to this, every lender that we deal with will also be a member of the ERC, which means that your product will guarantee you:

  • 100% homeownership. You are not selling any part of your home, only borrowing against it.
  • No-negative-equity. No matter what may happen in the property market, you will never owe more than the value of your home.
  • Portability. Plans approved by the ERC are portable which means you can move to a new property with your Lifetime Mortgage, subject to meeting lending criteria.

We always put our customers at the heart of everything we do. If you ever have any concerns about the equity release process, our Information Team and advisers will be on hand to help. There is no pressure to continue at any stage and you can take as much time as you need.

How does equity release work?

We will only advise on an equity release product known as a Lifetime Mortgage. A Lifetime Mortgage allows you to access a portiton of your home's value as a tax-free cash lump sum.

The amount you can release is primarily affected by your age and the value your home, but there are other factors that your adviser will take into consideration. Read more about how equity release works here.

Finding out if you’re eligible for equity release.

To be eligible for equity release, you must:

  • Be aged 55 or over.
  • Be a UK homeowner with a home worth at least £70,000.
  • Want to release at least £10,000.

Certain lenders might look at other factors, which is why it's important to seek out professional qualified advice. Your adviser will be best placed to help you understand more about the different equity release requirements.

Should you release equity or remortgage?

Equity release is not right for everyone, and we at Responsible Equity Release understand that. There are no hard sale pitches. You will be given all the information that you need at every stage of your journey and will only proceed if and when you are ready to.

Our advisers will also undertake a full review of your circumstances to assess whether equity release is the correct option for you. It could be that a ‘conventional mortgage’ would be more appropriate for you, or that you have other alternatives that could provide you with the necessary funds, such as savings or if you plan to downsize.
